Daniele Snider– This workshop will discuss the impacts of poverty on students and the classroom from a perspective of hope. Creating classroom environments so they meet the needs of students who live in poverty and serve their basic needs for survival will not just improve their behavior and engagement but will assist in closing the gaps caused by poverty. Learn how clearly defined classroom and school strategies for positive climate, building cognitive capacity, increasing motivation and pro social behavior decrease the gaps caused by poverty. Building, maintaining and repairing relationships plays a front and center roll when assisting these students. Through conversation, choice, and proactive responses students learn to build, maintain, and repair relationships while increasing capacity to attend, learn, and achieve.
